Date: 2010-05-17 09:15:44

Directors of the Ontario Association of Police Services Boards (OAPSB) will be visiting Queens’ Park today (17 May 2010).

OAPSB is the voice of civilian governance of policing in Ontario. Delegates will be meeting with representatives of the Provincial Government and opposition parties to discuss public safety and policing matters of mutual concern. Some key issues are:

•The need to update the Police Services Act;
•Concerns over the illegitimate use of prescription narcotics;
•Court security;
•Police governance training; and
•Unpaid traffic tickets, which have exceeded one billion dollars in
Ontario.

Today’s meetings are an annual event that is part of OAPSB’s efforts to advocate for improvements in public safety and policing in Ontario.

Members of the media may meet and interview OAPSB President Alok Mukherjee at 5p.m. at the Queen’s Park’s Legislative Dining Room.

For more information contact OAPSB Executive Director Fred Kaustinen at (905) 447-5318 or fjk.consulting@rogers.com.
