For immediate release Friday June 25, 2010 Police Board to meet on Tuesday TORONTO: The next scheduled meeting of the Toronto Police Services Board will take place on Tuesday June 29 at 1:30 PM in the Auditorium, 40 College Street. Copies of the agenda are available on the Board’s website, from the Board office and limited copies are available at the meeting. Items of interest include: REVIEW OF THE INVESTIGATION OF SEXUAL ASSAULTS The Board will hear a presentation and consider two reports from Mr. Jeff Griffiths, Auditor General, City of Toronto, on “The Review of the Investigation of Sexual Assaults – A Decade Later, Toronto Police Service” and “The Auditor General’s Second Follow-Up Review on the Police Investigation of Sexual Assaults.” These reports provide an overview of changes to the investigation of sexual assaults and demonstrate the extent to which audit recommendations in this area have been implemented by the Toronto Police Service. ANNUAL REPORT – 2009 PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS The Board will hear a presentation and consider a report from the Chief regarding the Professional Standards 2009 Annual report. The report includes information about public complaints, civil litigation, Police Services Act charges, use of force, Suspect Apprehension Pursuits and Service awards. The annual report shows decreases in public complaints, use of force incidents and suspect apprehension pursuits. REVIEW OF POLICE TRAINING The Board will hear a presentation and consider a follow-up report from Mr. Jeff Griffiths, Auditor General, City of Toronto, on a report issued in 2007 entitled “The Review of Police Training – Opportunities for Improvement.” The follow-up report demonstrates that the majority of the 39 recommendations made have been implemented and the remaining eight recommendations are a work in progress. TERMS OF REFERENCE: PAID DUTY SYSTEM AUDIT The Board will consider a report from Mr. Jeff Griffiths, Auditor General, City of Toronto, regarding the Terms of Reference for the Auditor General’s audit of the paid duty system operated by the Toronto Police Service. This report was drafted in response to a Board recommendation approved in December 2009 that requested the Auditor General to review the paid duty system.
