INVESTING IN OUR YOUTH INITIATIVE
The Board will hear a deputation from Mr. Kevin Lee, Executive Director, Scadding Court Community Centre with respect to the Investing In Our Youth Initiative. This initiative emerged from a collaboration between the Toronto Police Service, Scadding Court Community Centre and Dixon Hall in 2010 with the objective of building positive relations between police, youth and residents in communities in downtown Toronto. The project is based on a collaborative process which engages both youth and police officers in the planning, evaluation and program design.
BOARD POLICIES ON HUMAN RIGHTS AND ACCOMMODATION
The Board will consider a report from Chair Mukherjee recommending approval of Board policies on Human Rights and Accommodation. As the report notes, these policies have been developed after a long and extensive process of consultation with a number of stakeholders, including the Toronto Police Service, the Toronto Police Association and the Ontario Human Rights Commission.
ANNUAL HATE/BIAS CRIME STATISTICAL REPORT
The Board will consider a report from the Chief containing the 2011 Annual Hate/Bias Crime Statistical Report. As the report states, 2011 was characterized by strengthened relationships with community partners, continuing education and a commitment to encouraging greater public reporting of hate crimes. The report notes that in 2011, there was a decrease in the number of total hate/bias crime occurrences reported to the Hate Crime Unit. The report also notes that in 2011, the most victimized groups were the Jewish community, followed by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) community, the Muslim community and the Black community.
