Police Board to meet on Thursday September 24, 2009

TORONTO: The next scheduled meeting of the Toronto Police Services Board will take place on Thursday September 24, 2009 at 1:30 PM in the Auditorium, 40 College Street. PRESENTATION - 2010-2019 CAPITAL BUDGET
The Board will hear a presentation and consider a report from the Chief recommending that the Board approve the Service’s 2010-2019 Capital Budget Program with a 2010 net request of $40.2M (excluding cashflow carry forwards from 2009), a net total of $158.4M for 2010-2014 (an average of $31.7M per year), and a net total of $336.0M for 2010-2019.

TTC WORKING GROUP STATUS UPDATE
The Board will consider a report from the Chair containing a status update of work being done by a Working Group tasked with establishing, in collaboration with TTC representatives, a framework and process for developing a shared vision for policing Toronto’s public transit system. The framework is based on certain principles agreed to by the Board and TTC Chairs. It was agreed that the Working Group would continue to meet as necessary to resolve policy and governance issues.

OPERATING BUDGET VARIANCE REPORT
The Board will consider a report from the Chief regarding the Operating Budget variance for the period ending July 31, 2009. The Board has approved the Service’s operating budget at a net amount of $855.1M, including an unspecified reduction of $2.1M. As at July 31, 2009, a favourable year-end variance of $0.4M is anticipated. The report includes details of each major expenditure and revenue categories

COMMUNITY DONATION – “FOR KICKS” PROGRAM
The Board will consider a report from the Chief recommending approval of a cash donation of $100,000 from the Universal Youth Foundation to be used for costs associated with the Toronto Police Service “For KICKS” Program for the 2008 and 2009 seasons. The program was originally initiated to target at-risk youth who required positive influences, education and opportunity. The program has grown and expanded to involve a number of divisions within Toronto as well as locations around the world. In addition, the program has evolved to include a number of other sporting and arts activities.
